2012 - Electrolux Impress
Second place Design Lab 2012
In conjunction with the annual Electrolux design lab awards, as a class, we were each given the brief to design a product that gives a 'sensory experience' in the kitchen or home.
I re-evaluated the concept of the refrigerator with the 'Impress'. I wanted to reduce the idea of what we want in food preservation and cooling into its base needs and build it back up with influences from my flatting experiences and the intention of creating something that rewarded the user.
Impress is a wall mounted refrigerator into which plates and bottles can be pressed and cooled as they come into contact with the surrounding hexagonal pins that hold it in place. It was intended that such a refrigerator would be purchased 'by the pin', meaning it could be arranged into different shapes and even distributed around different locations in the home.
After entering the final concept into the competition I was awarded the chance to present my concept in Italy alongside nine other competitors from around the globe in the finals. We presented to a panel of world renowned designers including chief designer at Electrolux. The event was streamed live over the internet. I was awarded second place.
